Poulin will hold this position part-time and will continue her hockey career at the same time.
In a press release, the Habs explains that she will be called upon to work on the ice and to do video sessions with the players in order to “hone their individual and collective skills”. She will work alongside Director of Player Development Rob Ramage and Director of Hockey Development Adam Nicholas.
“It is a privilege to have in our ranks a person as competent as Marie-Philip Poulin. She is the best in her field and her accomplishments help build a winning culture with Canadians,” said CH owner and president Geoff Molson.
“His arrival is one more step towards the diversity that we want to establish within the organization,” he adds.
Poulin, 31, has won four Olympic medals, including three gold. The Beauceville native is the first hockey player of any gender to have scored a goal in four Olympic final games. She dominated everywhere she went.
Last February, upon her return from the Beijing Games, the captain of Team Canada had refused an offer to play with the Lions of Trois-Rivières, the club of the ECHL affiliated with the Canadian.
“Marie-Philip is one of the best players on the planet and she won at the highest level, which will be very beneficial for our players. His knowledge, leadership and vision for hockey make the Canadiens a better organization,” said general manager Kent Hughes.
Poulin will meet the media late Tuesday afternoon at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.
