Did you know ? Due to complex manufacturing techniques, velvet was from the end of the Middle Ages to the 18th century a rare and luxurious fabric. Its shiny appearance and its softness were considered as real signs of refinement and allowed to maintain its high reputation. Velvet will eventually become more democratic in the 19th century, thanks to workers who wore the traditional wide trousers in cotton or corduroy.
Today, velvet is a real must-have, as evidenced by the collections of the greatest fashion houses: Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino… All have brought this fabric up to date and reinvented .
