It is an unprecedented event. On June 2, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, that is to say her 70 years of reign. Barely 21 years old, the sovereign had sworn to devote her entire life to serving the country and the “great imperial family” of which she is a part… a promise she has kept firmly for seven decades. She is now the record holder for longevity on the throne, a record which is celebrated with fanfare during the famous Trooping the Color – the traditional parade of the “hello to the colors“. It is unlikely that this duration will be surpassed by future successors to Elizabeth. Charles, the Crown Prince, is 73 and his son William will soon be 40.
The health of Queen Elizabeth II regularly worries the British people, especially since she now walks with a cane and has recently been absent from several public performances. Aged 96, she nevertheless attends the celebration of her Platinum Jubilee today with a broad smile. Installed on the famous balcony of Buckingham Palace, she opted for a unicolor set, as she likes them so much, in azure blue colors, matching that of her new official portrait, with her 85-year-old cousin, the Duke of Kent.
