Leo | Club illico | January 10

After five seasons, Fabien Cloutier lets his friendly antihero go. Directed by Jean-François Chagnon (Like me, Appendices), the final 12 episodes will explore the theme of new beginnings. There will also be talk of breakups, religious delirium and dating apps. Some new names will appear in the credits, including Josée Deschênes and Michel Barrette. They will join Marie-Laurence Moreau, Steve Laplante, Anne Dorval, Marc Labrèche, Vincent Leclerc, Guillaume Cyr and Hubert Proulx, who have brought Walton’s colorful characters to life since 2018.

The fourth chapter of True Detective takes us to the middle of winter in Ennis, a small fictional town in Alaska, where eight men who operated a research station mysteriously disappear. The second season of the delicious pastiche of American teen series marks the arrival of Julie Le Breton. The actress arrives at New Garden Hills Valley High in the role of Miss Carmichael, the sexy math teacher. According to the trailer for the 10 new episodes, she will have a forbidden relationship with Brian, the star basketball player played by Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais. We are also promised nods to Dawson’s Creek, Thirteen, Buffy the Vampire Slayer… And Petobviously!

This comedy in 10 episodes, directed by Ricardo Trogi (nineteen eighty one, Guys) and written by actor Frédéric Pierre, paints the portrait of a couple of Quebecers of Haitian origin stuck between two generations: their very modern young children and their very traditional parents. The production company behind the first season of Lakay Nou took advantage of the filming to start a buddy program to train and professionalize minority people in different positions behind the camera.

Sofia Vergara became an international star playing the inimitable Gloria in Modern Family. We will see how she negotiates her transition to drama in Griselda, a miniseries inspired by the journey of Griselda Blanco, an ambitious Colombian drug trafficker. Co-created by Eric Newman (Narcos) and directed by Andrés Baiz (Narcos), the six episodes, set in Miami, tell the story of how this woman managed to form one of the most powerful cartels in history, in the heart of the 1970s and 1980s.

Nicole Kidman is rarely, if ever, wrong. This is why this series created, co-produced and directed by Lulu Wang (The Farewell) catches our attention. Divided into six episodes, this adaptation of the novel by American author Janice YK Lee paints the portrait of a small, tight-knit group of expatriates who seem to lead a peaceful existence in Hong Kong, until a dramatic event triggers a chain reaction that disrupts their daily lives. The trailer suggests a high-flying production.

This miniseries marks the reunion of the producers of Band of Brothers (Brothers in arms), Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Inspired by Donald L. Miller’s novel of the same name, Masters of the Air focuses on the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, which dropped bombs on Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany. The cast includes Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keoghan and Anthony Boyle. According to The Hollywood Reporterthis action drama would have a budget of CAN$330 million.

Thirteen years after being transposed to the big screen (a sentimental comedy uninspired by Lone Scherfig, with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess), David Nicholls’ bestseller is the subject of a new adaptation. But this time on the small screen. One Day tells the story of love and friendship between Emma (Ambika Mod) and Dexter (Leo Woodall), which we catch once a year, on July 15. Will this British production meet the expectations of viewers who can no longer hope for the next one? Normal People ?

The British actress plays the chancellor of a fictional European country which is beginning to falter. According to the first images, this blockbuster also starring Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton and Hugh Grant will combine political drama, suspense and absurd comedy.
