Three men were in critical condition after being stabbed Tuesday evening on Le Plateau–Mont-Royal, in connection with a conflict which likely degenerated between several individuals. Montreal police have opened an investigation.
It was around 7 p.m. that the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) first reported having been called to intervene in an alley located between Saint-André and Mentana streets.
Upon their arrival, the police quickly located three men who had all been “injured by a sharp object,” said Officer Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Montreal police force. They were transported to a hospital center.
On social networks, the ambulance organization Urgences-Santé, which also intervened on the scene, indicated that the seriousness of the victims’ injuries “unfortunately makes us fear for their lives”
According to the first information obtained, it was a conflict which “degenerated” in the alley between several people which was at the origin of this whole affair. The suspect(s) fled before the police arrived,” added Officer Chèvrefils.
A vast security perimeter was erected to let investigators and forensic identification technicians do their work. Rue Rachel was closed to traffic between avenue Christophe-Colomb and rue Saint-André.
Witnesses were met shortly after the events. The police should also view video tapes from nearby surveillance cameras to trace the sequence of events.
No arrests have yet been made in this case as of Tuesday evening.
