Plateau Mont-Royal | The SPVM arrests a man suspected of having stabbed a woman in the street

(Montreal) A woman was stabbed in the middle of the street, Thursday evening, on the Plateau Mont-Royal. A 39-year-old man was arrested in this case and was to be questioned in the evening by investigators from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The victim is a 23-year-old woman, who was assaulted in the middle of the street at the corner of Durocher and Milton, according to SPVM spokesperson Marianne Allaire Morin. She reportedly suffered at least one stab wound to her upper body.

Also according to the SPVM, several emergency calls were received around 5:30 p.m. Thursday to report a stabbed victim on the public highway. Citizens came to the aid of the victim while waiting for the arrival of paramedics. The woman was conscious when taken to hospital and there are no fears for her life.

When patrol officers arrived at the scene of the attack, the suspect had fled. However, he was later located by the police. The 39-year-old man was arrested and brought to the investigation center, where he was to be questioned.

Investigators and forensic identification technicians were dispatched to the scene of the incident to gather information and try to understand what happened.
