Plateau-Mont-Royal | A building is the victim of a major fire

A fire broke out in a residential and commercial building in the Mile-End sector, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, mobilizing more than a hundred firefighters.

“It was a fire that spread quickly. Due to the heat, we deployed a large number of staff to ensure that the blaze was brought under control,” explains Robert Rousseau, media relations officer for the Montreal Fire Department (SIM).

The fire broke out in a building at the corner of Laurier Avenue and Saint-Urbain Street. The three-storey building houses a shop on the ground floor and housing. The source of the fire is on the rear balcony on the third floor and has spread to the attic.

This is a fifth alarm, so nearly 150 firefighters are on scene.

No injuries were reported in this fire. The residents were quickly evacuated by the teams on site.
