While single-use plastic must be abandoned by 2040, it is still resisting in supermarkets. However, measures are being taken by those in power.

In supermarkets, the plastic surrounding vegetables is still there. However, he had to disappear. Consumers are not fooled. “It looks like nothing has been done”, laments one of them. However, there are laws. Plastic bags have been banned from sale at checkouts since 2017. By 2040, all single-use plastic must disappear. However, the figures prove that we are consuming more and more of it. In 2021, each French person threw away 198 kilograms of packaging, including 37 of plastic. This is 12% more than in 2016.

A new European regulation to come?

On Wednesday November 22, the European Parliament must revise the regulations on packaging. Reuse is the most effective solution to reduce plastic. Many players offer returnable packaging. Today, 40% of the plastic used in Europe is used to package our products.
