Planned attack in Denmark | The seven suspects arrested in December have “links to Hamas”

(Copenhagen) The seven people suspected of having prepared a planned terrorist attack foiled by police in Denmark in December are linked to the Islamist movement Hamas, Danish police said on Friday.

Danish prosecutor Anders Larsson declared during a hearing before the Court of Appeal (Østre Landsret) in Copenhagen that the case “has links to Hamas”, the Danish police indicated in an email to AFP.

No further details were released as the proceedings took place behind closed doors.

Denmark announced on December 14 the arrest of three people as part of an investigation into a planned terrorist attack. Seven people in total are now suspected of being involved in this project.

Following the announcement of this police operation, in cooperation with the Danish intelligence services (PET), Israel declared that the suspects arrested in Denmark were acting “in the name of Hamas”.

An accusation which was not then confirmed by the Danish authorities.

“The terrorist threat facing Denmark is unfortunately serious, but fortunately we have […] of competent and vigilant police and intelligence services who do everything in their power, every day, to ensure our security,” responded Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard, quoted by the Ritzau agency.
