During confinement, we were able to rediscover what silence was in big cities. But all that is over. Millions of people suffer from noise pollution, especially those who live near highways, train lines or airports.

Sometimes dangerous for health, noise is omnipresent today. Paris would even be the European capital. Most often, Madeleine Massier, member of the association “Stop noise A50″, saw the windows closed. She can no longer stand the noise of the A 50 motorway in Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhone). Trouble sleeping, concentrating… This noise pollution has many effects on his health. For example, at 120 decibels continuously, the equivalent of a Formula 1 circuit, there would be a risk of deafness.

In the North of Le Mans, a small village saw the arrival of the TGV. Despite a noise barrier, Philippe carlach, resident of Connerre (Sarthe), measured a rate of 88 decibels towards the window closest to the tracks. His house has lost value. “I will lose between 25 and 40% of the value of my house”, he argues.
Another retiree, living in Sannois (Val d’Oise), suffers from aircraft noise because of the airport near her home. At night, she prefers to sleep in the basement. In France, nearly 9 million people would be exposed noise pollution above the recommended threshold.
