Plaine d’Ansot and Museum closed until further notice

Closed door. Since last December 10, it has been impossible to cross the access to the Plaine d’Ansot in Bayonne at the end of the white bridge that spans the Nive to connect the Florida site to the natural area in Les Barthes. That day, the vast wetland was submerged by the Nive in flood out of its bed during the floods which marked the Basque Country. The damage, in particular on the buildings housing the Barthes house and the Natural History Museum, is significant. The site is closed until further notice.

Damaged collections

Before they can reopen to the public, the paths of the Plaine d’Ansot must be cleaned and made safe. Probably a matter of days, even if no date has yet been set. The wait will be much longer to access the Barthes house and the Bayonne Natural History Museum. The five buildings on the site suffered extensive damage, as well as the collections they house. The water rose to 1.80m.

For now, the Ansot plain and municipality teams are still assessing the damage and work to be done before you can plan to reopen.
