During a duel of the New Jersey Devils against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night, the former Montreal Canadiens tripped rookie Trevor Zegras. He received no penalty on the play.
Earlier this season, the No.76 was fined $ 5,000 for doing something similar to Calgary Flames veteran Milan Lucic. He had placed his leg dangerously behind his rival’s knee to make him fall on the ice.
Subban had also been talked about during the preparatory calendar. He had slammed New York Rangers tough guy Ryan Reaves, injuring him instantly. No sanction had been imposed.
Since he is a repeat offender, the fine has been increased to $ 15,000, the maximum allowed under the collective agreement. The money will go to the NHL Emergency Assistance Fund.
The right-back is in the final year of an eight-year, $ 72 million pact signed in 2014 with the Canadiens. He has since been traded twice. If he does not agree with the Devils on the terms of a contract extension by the end of this campaign, he will profit from the free agent market.
