Pittsburgh Steelers | A three-year contract for quarterback Mitch Trubisky

(Pittsburgh) The Pittsburgh Steelers signed quarterback Mitch Trubisky to a three-year contract on Friday, giving the team some long-term stability behind starter Kenny Pickett.

Trubisky would enter the second season of a two-year contract signed with the Steelers last spring.

The contract extension gives the Steelers some headroom on the payroll as they try to solidify their roster ahead of the 2023 season.

Trubisky joined the Steelers in March 2022, after backing up for Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills. He started the 2022 season as a starter for the Steelers before being replaced by Pickett after halftime in a week four loss to the New York Jets.

Trubisky, selected second overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2017 draft, threw four touchdowns and five interceptions and had 1,252 passing yards in seven games with the Steelers last year.

The signing ensures the depth at quarterback behind Pickett will be the same as in 2022. Last week, the Steelers signed Mason Rudolph, who was the third quarterback last season, to a one-year contract. .
