Pittsburgh Pirates | One-year contract for pitcher Martin Perez

(Pittsburgh) The Pittsburgh Pirates added veteran Martin Perez to their pitching rotation Monday on a one-year, $8 million contract.

The pact with the 32-year-old left-hander, who won the World Series with the Texas Rangers in November, is contingent on a physical, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The person wishes to remain anonymous because the contract has not been announced.

Perez was 10-4 with a 4.45 ERA in 35 games, including 20 starts, last season. He was moved from the rotation to the bullpen in August, making three relief appearances during the playoffs.

His career record is 85-81 with a 4.44 ERA in 12 major league seasons with the Rangers, Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox. He played in the All-Star Game in 2022.

Perez is the second left-hander to join the Pirates in recent weeks. The Pennsylvania team also acquired Marco Gonzales from the Atlanta Braves on December 5.
