Pitcher Chris Bassitt signed for three years with the Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly signed starting pitcher Chris Bassitt to a three-year, $63 million contract.

A person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press. This person confided under the seal of anonymity because hiring depends on a successful medical examination.

If the whole thing pans out, Bassitt will join a rotation pivoted by Alek Manoah and Kevin Gausman. The Blue Jays are also counting on Jose Berrios and Yusei Kikuchi, and Hyun Jin Ryu could return in the 2023 season after missing the final stretch of the season with an elbow injury.

The 33-year-old Bassitt, a right-handed pitcher, became a free agent when he opted out of his $19 million contract option with the New York Mets.

Bassitt was 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA in 30 starts after the Mets acquired him in a trade with the Oakland Athletics at the end of the lockout.
