Two groups from the Vaucluse Fire and Rescue Service – i.e. one quarantine of firefighters – are still mobilized, this Thursday morning, on the hill of Piolenc. They drown and watch the fire, which resumed Wednesday afternoon.
The flames, fanned by the mistral, destroyed three additional hectares of vegetation. To limit the spread of the fire, firefighters received the support of four Canadair, two Dash planes and a water bomber helicopter on Wednesday afternoon.
In total, these are thirty-two hectares who have gone up in smoke since Friday.
The gendarmerie has opened an investigation to determine the causes – and possible responsibilities – in this fire. Neighbors claim to have heard sounds of firecrackers before the fire started.
