Pineau d’Aunis Wine Athletes Vin de France 2020 | A wine with a unique character

Pineau d’Aunis is a historic grape variety from Touraine. It has nothing to do with pinots (noir, blanc or gris) or with chenin (it is also called chenin noir).

Mainly grown in the Coteaux du Loir (no mistake: it is the Loir, a tributary of the Loire), it gives very pale wines, with a strong spicy character, which are unlike anything else. This is a perfect introduction.

Aromas are moderate, with some tart red fruits, pepper and flowers. The spicy character stands out on the palate, with also vegetal notes of cedar, undergrowth and red pepper somewhat reminiscent of Cabernet Franc. A ripe body gives it body in the mouth, but it remains light and very fresh. Moderate, firm tannins and a mineral impression stretch on the finish.

Game terrine, savory lentils, black pudding.
