Quebecers Samuel Piette, Maxime Crépeau and Ismaël Koné have been selected to join the Canadian national team for the next international break.
Canada’s interim head coach, Mauro Biello, made the announcement on Wednesday, a few days before the start of the international break, which will take place from November 13 to 21.
Canada will face Jamaica for two quarter-final matches of the Concacaf Nations League, in a home-and-away format. The first will take place on November 17 at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica, while the second will take place at BMO Field in Toronto on November 21.
Piette, who wore the CF Montreal uniform this season, made his return to Canada when he played 61 minutes in a friendly match against Japan on October 13. It was his first game with the national team since his call-up to the 2022 Soccer World Cup in Qatar.
Piette played in 16 games with the Bleu-blanc-noir this season, including 14 starts. He missed more than three months of activities due to an injury suffered on April 1 in Vancouver.
Crépeau, Los Angeles FC’s number one goalkeeper, missed the majority of the 2023 MLS season after injuring his leg during his team’s MLS Cup final victory.
Crépeau returned to action in MLS Next Pro on July 23 before concluding the season with LAFC. He helped his team defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps in two games in the first round of the MLS playoffs.
Koné wears the colors of Watford, in the second division of England. He notably represented Canada at the 2022 Soccer World Cup.
The Concacaf Nations League serves as a qualifying tournament for Concacaf teams for the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América tournament.
This is how the winners of the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Nations League will qualify directly for the prestigious South American tournament, while the losers will participate in a knockout qualifying phase.
