The story of two volunteers involved in the reintegration into society of people who have suffered accidents, the film Cracked by Christophe Duthuron (The Old Stoves) is inspired by a true story. That of the requisition of a house housing a housing assistance association by a municipal decree.

The subject is serious, the tone of the film, light and funny. The comedy, in theaters Wednesday August 28, summons a five-star cast, with Pierre Richard, Charlotte de Turckheim, Bernard Le Coq, François Berléand and Fred Blin, to defend a cause.

In Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne), Pierre (Pierre Richard) created L’Arc-en-ciel, an association dedicated to housing around ten people who have been through psychiatry following painful experiences. But the mayor (Charlotte de Turckheim) requisitions the place to create a parking lot requested by an entrepreneur (François Berléand). Pierre monopolizes everyone around him to collect the money needed to buy the house.

Even if the film ends up transforming the drama into a comedy, this story speaks to us through the solidarity it advocates. Some of the actors have lived through the events described and touch the heart. The interpretation is in tune with the subject, professional or not actors, with varied roles that are part of an atypical story, from an ignored daily life.

Filmed in scope (widescreen), the image format allows the many protagonists to be in the frame at the same time, but in a window that remains televisual. Written for Pierre Richard, his role makes the film. But Christophe Duthuron associates him with a great bunch of actors. And the casting is what makes it worth Cracked to be distributed in theaters. But the subject is daring, even if we have recently seen other films addressing psychiatry, such as the documentary On the Adamant by Nicolas Philibert.

Everything is going well in Crackedfrom the subject to the interpretation, about people who are not quite right, but who defend their cause. That of an integration that they deserve as actors in society. The cause is heard by the interpreters who distil it with conviction and humor. Which makes Cracked a smart and sparkling comedy, on a little-discussed and current subject.
