Pierre Poilievre only follows two rules: the first is that Pierre Poilievre is always right. And the second is that when Pierre Poilievre is wrong, we must refer to the first rule.
Last week we were treated to some great Poilievre when he got his feet wet by claiming that the horrific automobile accident that occurred on the Canada-US border was an act of terrorism.
Here is the word for word of what Poilievre said during question period: “Can the Prime Minister give us information on this terrorist attack?”
The journalists, doing their job, had questions for him the next day, during his press briefing. Far from apologizing for having said such an enormity, he blamed… the media!
He tried to say he was just repeating what some media outlets had said. It was pathetic to hear it.
Dangerous
His ill-timed reaction to the explosion and his off-putting responses to the media revealed deep tendencies within him. Once again, he was dramatizing and refusing to acknowledge his mistakes. Worse, we could see that a Pierre Poilievre prime minister would be a downright source of instability in times of crisis. Instead of calming things down, he would be the type to cause a stir!
I sat opposite Poilievre in the House of Commons for over 10 years. It gives you time to get the measure of someone…
Poilievre thinks very highly of his opinions and he is always willing to share them.
On the same day that Stephen Harper organized a formal apology in the House of Commons for residential schools, Poilievre, then a backbencher, had hurtful words for First Nations.
Harper was furious and Poilievre was forced to apologize in Parliament. Harper made him wait more than five years before appointing him minister.

Like Trump
Poilievre’s dark series continues in two files, however far from each other. A new free trade agreement between Canada and Ukraine should have gone like a letter in the mail.
However, the Conservatives have managed to see the “spectre” of a carbon tax, their pet peeve, hidden in the free trade agreement! Crazy!
Even the Ukrainian ambassador had to intervene to plead that her country wants this agreement and to insist on the fact that she is nowhere talking about a carbon tax.
Poilievre and his henchmen thought they saw a trap and they voted against!
The conservative leader denies being an emulator of Trump. Its positioning against the interests of Ukraine is, however, that of the Republican Party.
He did not changed
Those around him may have removed his glasses, shown him with his family and reduced the thickness of the Brylcreem in his hair a little, Poilievre is still the same guy; a temperamental and excessive man.
According to polls, Poilievre has an insurmountable lead over Trudeau. It reminds me of George Foreman who was, according to all predictions, going to cut a certain Muhammad Ali to pieces.
Patient and experienced, Ali let his opponent exhaust himself – and expose himself – before taking the opportunity to knock him out
It doesn’t always end the way we predict.
