Pierre Ny St-Amand is back in court

The man accused of killing two young children by ramming a bus into a daycare is due back in court Tuesday.

Pierre Ny St-Amand was arrested after his bus crashed into the facade of a Laval daycare on February 8, killing two four-year-old children and injuring six other children.

The 51-year-old bus driver was charged with two counts of first-degree murder as well as seven other counts, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The case, which has been postponed several times, was last heard in August, when the Crown asked for more time to disclose evidence.

Mr. St-Amand, who remains in custody, was found fit to stand trial in February following a psychological evaluation carried out after his arrest.

A separate assessment, focusing on Mr. St-Amand’s mental state at the time of his alleged crimes and whether he should be considered criminally responsible, was sealed by a judge in April.
