The cars had the opportunity to shine during the last two stages of the Tour de France, on which Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) was the strongest. Between Pau and Laruns, the peloton has an appointment with the Pyrenees massif, Wednesday July 5, on a mountain stage long 162.7 km.
With a good profile on the program: the Col de Soudet (15.1 km, 7.2%), the first non-category climb of this 110th edition of the Tour, then that of Ischère (3rd category, 4.2 km at 7% ), before finishing with the Col de Marie Blanque (1st category, 7.7 km at 8.6%).
Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost), polka dot jersey since the first stage, remains a simple outsider to victory as the competition is tough. Tadej Pogacar (UAE) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) could trigger the first real hostilities of this Tour. But Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) could try his luck in Béarn.
