Next April, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television will present a prize to Pierre Bruneau to highlight “the significant impact of his entire career on the audiovisual industry in Canada or abroad”.
The Canadian Academy announced on Wednesday the list of winners of the 2023 Special Awards, which recognize members of the Canadian audiovisual industry who have made an exceptional contribution to the sector and to society as a whole. In addition to Pierre Bruneau, the Canadian Academy will honor Lisa LaFlamme, “a journalist at the forefront of the profession for more than 30 years, who brings to light the greatest issues of our time”, with the Gordon-Sinclair Prize for spoken journalism.
The actress Catherine O’Hara will also be awarded the Icon Prize, “for her exceptional and continuous contribution to the national or foreign audiovisual industry”. For his part, actor Ryan Reynolds will receive the Academy’s Humanitarian Award; Tracy Moore, that of the agent of change; and Peter MacNeill, the Earle-Grey Award.
Note that the organization’s mission is to recognize, defend and celebrate Canadian talent in the film, television and digital media sectors. “Receiving this lifetime achievement award is a great honour. I am extremely touched and I accept it with great humility. I would also like to thank the public for their loyalty and for having supported and followed me during all these years”, declared the former presenter of the VAT 6 p.m.by press release.
These awards will be presented next April in Toronto as part of Canada on Screen Week 2023.
