He therefore joins the team after a stint of more than a year with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in the NFL. He played three preseason games with them in 2021.
Lestage, a six-foot-three, 310-pound colossus, was the Alouettes’ first pick, 10e in total, during the Canadian auction in 2021. The former Carabins of the University of Montreal, had signed an agreement with the Seahawks immediately after the NFL Draft in May 2021.
The native of Saint-Eustache played three seasons with the Carabins. In 2019, he was named to the RSEQ First All-Star Team, and to the National Second All-Star Team.
“We are very pleased with this addition. There is no doubt that Pier-Olivier will solidify our offensive line, said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia in a press release. We believed his selection was a calculated risk due to his time in the NFL, but now we realize that this choice could pay us big. »
Maciocia knows Lestage well since he was his coach with the Carabins.
The Alouettes have also added defensive tackle Mustafa Johnson and linebacker Eric Mezzalira to their practice roster.
