It’s the shock of group C, and it will already be decisive. Beaten by Fiji in the previous match, the Australians left the way open to the Welsh in this group stage. With two improved victories in two matches, Warren Gatland’s men will only need a victory against Australia, Sunday September 24 in Lyon (9 p.m.), to reach the quarter-finals even before the last match. A victory which would almost knock the Wallabies out of the competition, since they will have to hope for at least one defeat for the Fijians against Georgia or Portugal, the two weakest teams in the group, to qualify for the quarter-finals, a stage they have never failed in nine editions.
They will be able to count on their glorious past (31 victories in 45 matches) to find reasons for hope, because their dynamic under coach Eddie Jones, arrived as a savior in 2023, never managed to take off again. Follow the meeting live.
