The Union of Quebec Writers (UNEQ) has had 12 intense months to say the least. The adoption of the Status of the Artist Act in June 2022 notably granted the union the power to raise dues, which sowed division within a heterogeneous pool of authors. A succession of tense general meetings, heated debates and employee resignations caused a serious crisis of confidence in the Union. A brand new board of directors has just been elected, with the hope of repairing the broken pots, but the challenge promises to be colossal.
