After Carey Price, now former CH captain Shea Weber has officially cut ties with Montreal. The former Canadiens defender has finally sold his house in Candiac, which he put on the market last summer.
It was a local doctor who bought the residence for the tidy sum of $3.28 million.
Weber bought the residence in 2016 for $2.35 million. It is therefore another million in the bank more for the one who, after the 2025-2026 season, will have received more than $ 127 million during his career.
It must be said that the powerful defender was not badly housed while waiting for the sale. His splendid residence in Kelowna, British Columbia, on the edge of Okanagan Lake, is valued at $13.5 million. Weber is a native of Sicamous, located two hours north of Kelowna.
Recall that the former captain played his last game on July 7, 2021. It was the fifth game of the Stanley Cup Final, which the Habs lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

A delayed retirement
During a press briefing held a few weeks later, Marc Bergevin had given indications that his captain might no longer be putting on the skates. He claimed Weber had mileage and pushed his body to the limit.
That said, both the team and the principal concerned have always refused to use the word “retirement”. By refusing to bow out officially, Weber, who then had five years left on his contract, avoided the Predators, who had him sign this agreement, from being imposed a penalty of a few tens of thousands of dollars under the salary cap. In addition, Weber could thus continue to receive, very cushy, the 12 million then remaining in his contract (which ends at the end of the 2025-2026 season).
Moreover, at the beginning of the following season, the management of the Canadian placed the name of the defender on the long-term injured list. A tax operation aimed at reducing the impact of Weber’s $7.86 million salary under the team’s salary cap.

The end of an era
On June 16, 2022, Kent Hughes, Bergevin’s successor, traded Weber’s contract to the Vegas Golden Knights for Evgenii Dadonov, ending a five-year association.
Last week, Carey Price’s family announced that she was leaving Montreal. Through her Instagram account, Angela Price mentioned that the family home would be put up for sale, since the couple intends to move to British Columbia (in Kelowna, just like Weber), province of birth of the caretaker, at the end of the season and the school year of their eldest.
Not so long ago, Price and Weber were the hard core of the Canadian de Bergevin, who had built his team around these two veterans. We can therefore speak of the end of an era for the Habs. A core with which the CH only crossed the first round of the playoffs on one occasion in addition to missing them three times.
