The worst was narrowly avoided despite a violent collision involving a stolen vehicle Sunday evening in the borough of Ahuntsic, in Montreal.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) was alerted by calls to 911 about a collision that occurred around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Legendre Street.

According to initial information, the suspects aboard a vehicle reported stolen were traveling eastbound on Legendre Street before colliding head-on with a van which was traveling northbound on Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

Despite the force of the impact, the driver of the van was not injured, while the suspects fled on foot before the arrival of the police, according to SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.

A dog handler was called to the rescue, while the stolen vehicle had to be appraised in order to locate evidence that could be exploited by SPVM investigators, it was added.
