[PHOTOS] Montreal: a fire puts two families on the street in the Latin Quarter

Two families find themselves on the street after a fire that occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday in a building in the Latin Quarter in downtown Montreal.

The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) was called shortly after 1:30 a.m. for a fire that broke out in a three-story building on Saint-Denis Street, near Emery Street.

The fire started on the 1st floor balcony before quickly spreading to the upper floors and to the roof of this residential and commercial building.

The residents of the building were evacuated and two families were taken care of by the Canadian Red Cross, according to a spokesperson for the SIM who specifies that no one was injured.

The hundred firefighters dispatched to the scene to fight the flames were able to control the fire which is now under control, after a fifth alarm triggered.

For the moment, the extent of the damage as well as the cause of this fire are unknown, but the file remains in the hands of the investigators of the SIM, it was added.
