In Marseille, in Bouches-du-Rhône, a collective opposed to seasonal rentals displays the photos and addresses of the owners of these accommodations.
In the Notre-Dame du Mont district of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), slogans and messages against Airbnb are displayed to denounce these accommodations, which are very numerous in this district. Recently, the campaign reached a milestone. For several days, photos and addresses of the owners have been posted in the street. A method that shocks some residents. “There is a problem in Marseille, that’s for sure, with the proliferation of Airbnbs.”notes a woman.
A rental control brigade
Among the anti-Airbnb actions, the destruction of padlocked boxes which house the keys to rental accommodation. An owner of four apartments had his key box stolen in the street. “I find it very cowardly to post the photo of an owner (…) while these people do all their actions with their faces hidden”, he argues. In Le Panier, a tourist district in the heart of Marseille, Stephan Teissier has dozens of seasonal rentals on his street. For a month, Marseille town hall has set up a rental control brigade.
