[PHOTOS] A fall from the 8th floor at the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis

A major police operation has been creating quite a stir near the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis since Tuesday morning, when a man allegedly fell from the eighth floor before crashing to the ground.

The event occurred around 6 a.m., Tuesday morning, on the territory of the hospital center located between the streets of Mont-Marie, Wolfe and Saint-Omer.

First aid was quickly deployed on the spot to carry out resuscitation maneuvers.

But according to our information, the elderly victim in his sixties died of his injuries.

A scene was set up to allow investigators and the Forensic Identification Service to understand what could have happened.

The criminal thesis is dismissed for the moment, underlines Jean-Sébastien Levan, spokesperson for the Police Department of the City of Lévis (SPVL).

“The voluntary gesture is privileged, but we do not rule out the accidental thesis for the moment”, he specifies.

Defenestrated

The individual in question allegedly fell from a window, according to information provided by the SPVL.

However, the CISSS de Chaudière-Appalaches affirms that these do not open from the inside. The victim would therefore have smashed the window to achieve his ends.

“We will analyze the events to determine the circumstances related to this death,” said Mireille Gaudreau, spokesperson for the organization, adding that there are usually monitoring mechanisms for the different types of clientele.

Psychosocial assistance was offered to support the staff in shock and to the bereaved family.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that such a situation has occurred at the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis. Michel Lessard, a 26-year-old Beauceron, also threw himself at the bottom of the 8e floor of the building.

According to coroner Luc Malouin, hospital employees could not do anything at the time.

The behavior of the victim […] in no way foreshadowed such a gesture, since at that time she was very calm and cooperative with the beneficiary attendant who was assigned exclusively to her care, ”he wrote in his report, in 2009.
