Phoenix Suns get Kevin Durant in mega-deal

The Phoenix Suns completed a mega-deal in the middle of the night from Wednesday to Thursday, acquiring star player Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets, according to multiple media reports.

Those outlets, citing unnamed sources, said the Suns added Durant to a starting lineup that already featured star players Chris Paul and Devin Booker, in addition to center Deandre Ayton.

In return, the Suns offered Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, four first-round picks and an additional compensating pick to the Nets.

The Suns also got TJ Warren in the trade.

Durant, 34, is still excelling on the court, averaging 30 points per game this season. Trade rumors had been swirling between Durant and the Suns since last summer, but something concrete didn’t happen until last night.

That transaction was completed hours before new Suns majority owner Mat Ishbia was introduced to the media in Phoenix. The self-described basketball fan, who was passed over by Tom Izzo while playing for Michigan State University, didn’t take long to send shockwaves through the NBA.

The Suns have never won the NBA championship. They made the final two years ago, but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. They also participated in the final series in 1976 and 1993.
