Phillies sweep Blue Jays for second straight

Kody Clemens hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia Phillies completed a two-game series sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday.

Kyle Schwarber led off the game with a home run for the Phillies (83-56).

It was his 13the home run of the season as the leadoff hitter for his team in the game, which ties the Major League record set by Alfonso Soriano in 2003.

Schwarber hit three home runs in the Phillies’ win Tuesday, bringing his total to 32 this season.

JT Realmuto also hit a solo homer in the ninth inning for the Phillies, who won their fourth straight game.

Cristopher Sanchez (10-9) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings of work. He struck out seven batters. Carlos Estevez closed the books and added a 24e rescue to his file.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning for the Blue Jays (67-74).

Bowden Francis (8-4) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings.

Francis was named the American League pitcher of the month on Tuesday, going 4-1 in five starts and one outing as a reliever while posting a 1.05 ERA.

Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper left the game in the first inning after being hit in the left elbow by a pitch from Francis. The two-time National League MVP winner was replaced by Edmundo Sosa.
