A road that disappears under the waves and winds that reach up to 195 km/h. On Sunday, September 25, Super Typhoon Noru began to hit the main island of the Philippines. High alert has been issued as the typhoon has strengthened with unprecedented speed over the past 24 hours. Faced with floods and landslides, the authorities fear the worst. In the slums of the Manila area, evacuations have taken place as a precaution.
“Those who live near the river are often squatters. Their houses are made of odds and ends. In the event of rain or typhoons, they are the first to be affected”, explains Alex Santos, member of the evacuation team. The evacuees were grouped in tents pitched on a basketball court. “I left my house because I’m scared. The water is starting to rise very high”says a woman. Nine months ago, another super-typhoon killed 400 people in the country.
