Philippe Poutou is running for the European elections in Belgium. The former candidate of New anti-capitalist party (NPA) in the presidential election will appear in third position on the list carried by the Anti-capitalist Left, this Belgian organization classified on the extreme left announced on Saturday April 13 in a press release. “By bringing his notoriety to the Anticapitalist Left which is running for the first time in the elections under the acronym Anticapitalists, Philippe Poutou supports a political outlet for social and ecological struggles from an internationalist perspective”says one of the branches of the NPA in its press release.

The New Anti-Capitalist Party broke up at the end of 2022 into two distinct groups: one, the NPA-B, notably represented by former presidential candidates Olivier Besancenot and Philippe Poutou, in favor of a rapprochement with La France insoumise. And the other, the NPA-C, which claims to have for itself “the historic financing association of the NPA” and refuses any agreement with parties judged “reformists”.

“For an anti-capitalist Europe”

The NPA-B chose not to present a candidate in France for these European elections and failed to form an alliance with LFI. “He will decide on his specific vote call before the end of April”he specifies.

Bordeaux municipal councilor, dismissed auto worker, promises to fight “for an anti-capitalist Europe which opposes capitalist and liberal Europe; for an ecological, feminist, anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-imperialist Europe; a Europe which fights against policies of closing borders, which defends the freedom of circulation and welcoming of all”.
