After politics, cinema. The former presidential candidate of the New Anti-Capitalist Party Philippe Poutou has found a job with the cinema company Urban Distribution, the magazine announced on Wednesday (September 14th). French Filmthree years after his dismissal from the Ford factory in Blanquefort.
“At first it started as a joke. He was unemployed. Why not move from the factory to the world of cinema? Then the idea caught on”, explains to franceinfo Frédéric Corvez, CEO of Urban Distribution. The former candidate will be responsible for promoting films outside the media: screenings and previews with associations, NGOs or municipalities. “It’s a bit like a presidential campaign, where you have to mobilize support. Philippe speaks well in public, he has a network, and an additional and important reason for us, he is also a film buff”he continues.
The former worker, who is still a municipal councilor in Bordeaux and a metropolitan councilor, will work part-time. “He is given a salary which, added to his elected allowances, corresponds to the salary he received when he was a worker at the Blanquefort factory”explains Frédéric Corvez.
The two men met in 2019 at the Fête de l’Humanité and Urban Distribution is in charge of the documentary on the fight of the workers of the Blanquefort factory, We are left with anger. “For this film, Philippe will not do the work for which we hired him. It’s complicated to be inside the film as a character and to be outside”, specifies Frédéric Corvez. The film will be released in theaters on December 7.
