Philippe Maneuver admits it himself: rock goes so well with alcohol. Drugs are not left out either. The journalist retraces his personal journey and that of his idols with these artificial paradises in a book, Acid flashback, which comes out Thursday at Robert Laffont editions. A time addicted to alcohol and drugs, the former editor-in-chief of Rock & Folk managed to get by.
“I have an addictive personality, it served me with rock, my passion became a profession, and besides when I stopped alcohol, I became addicted to sparkling water“, explained the rocker in an interview with AFP. Philippe Maneuver admits that at one point, he had replaced his morning coffee with a beer.
The journalist and former juror of New star managed to get by thanks to the support of his former companion, the novelist and director Virginie Despentes. He admits that the author has “save the life”. “With her, it was’ what could we stop today?‘”, he jokes, always with AFP. One day, she comes into their apartment and exclaims”it stinks of coke here!“. Philippe Maneuver has just fallen on a dealer, an old acquaintance. They destroy then what remains of the gram.
Now “clean” for twenty years, Philippe Maneuver is still worried about the progress of drug damage on society. Ten years ago, he even discovered a cocaine straw in the belongings of his eldest daughter, then in her twenties. “I could have trapped her between four eyes, tell her ‘you don’t go out anymore’ but that would have been bullshit (…) redoubled attention, tenderness: together we will see the dawn that is rising, we will see films together, take trips“, he confided.
