Philippe Etchebest and M6 face justice: conviction after a dispute… with a brand of caviar!

Nightmare for caviar! As revealed by the site Capital this Monday, June 27, 2022, Philippe Etchebest is at the heart of a dispute with a brand of caviar. M6 thus took the brand to court but had a very bad surprise. We explain to you!

The 55-year-old starred chef is one of the emblematic figures of M6. He is the star of Kitchen nightmare orTop Chef objective. He is also part of the jury of Top chef, since 2015. And when he’s not on television or on stage with his group Chef & The Gang, Philippe Etchebest is the face of certain brands. He has notably worked with Lidl, Danette, Kronenbourg and Parc Astérix. And in 2016, he collaborated with Akitania, a brand of caviar produced in Aquitaine for 129,000 euros including tax. “The chef did not have much to do: pose for a photo with the product, develop four caviar recipes, participate in a few events and let Akitania put his photo on the packaging and at the points of sale.“, precise Capital.

After a year of collaborationduration specified in the contract, Akitania no longer wished to work with Philippe Etchebest, whose image rights are managed by M6’s advertising agency. And the chain would not have appreciated that the boss of the brand “offered a sum of money to contract directly” with the boss. For his part, Akitania claims that a clause in the contract proposed by M6 did not suit him.

Whatever, M6 would have made the decision in defense of the interests of Philippe Etchebest, dtake the brand to court. She would have claimed 174,000 euros, in compensation for faults committed and loss of earnings. The reason ? The chain would have affirmed that, even if Akitania had never formally signed a new contract, an agreement in principle had been reached, and broken wrongfully by Akitania, in “faking a disagreement“.

The case was judged by the court of Saintes and it was the brand of caviar that emerged as the winner. M6 would indeed be condemned to pay “7,000 euros in procedural costs“in compensation. A decision confirmed by the Poitiers Court of Appeal which also added 1,000 euros to the amount required. Contacted by Capitalneither M6 nor Akitania wished to speak.
