After four days of official travel to the United Arab Emirates, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium were to return to Brussels on Saturday February 5. Finally, it was a day late that the couple and their delegation returned to the country, due to a car accident involving members of the crew of the royal plane…
As reported by several Belgian media, including RTL Info and The evening, the sovereign, his wife and their teams spent an additional night in Abu Dhabi and could not take off until Sunday morning. Their departure was delayed due to a “minor, minor road accident” involving members of the government plane’s crew. Despite everything, the people concerned had to go through the hospital for some check-ups. The pilots were therefore unable to fly on Saturday, after taking painkillers, as our colleagues point out.
Apart from this incident, the trip of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde went off without a hitch. Arrived in the Sultanate of Oman on February 2, the couple were welcomed by Sultan Haïtham ben Tariq and his wife, Ahad bint Abdullah, during the welcome ceremony at Al Alam Palace in Muscat. The couple notably visited the Great Mosque of Sultan Qabus (see slideshow). On February 5, Elisabeth’s parents, Gabriel, Emmanuel and Eléonore (20, 18, 16 and 13 years old) then went to Dubai to visit the Belgian pavilion at the Universal Exhibition.
Throughout this official trip, Mathilde from Belgium unveiled colorful and sophisticated looks. It was first wearing a new Johanna Ortiz printed dress that she left the official plane when she arrived in Muscat. Like other reasonable crowned heads, such as Letizia of Spain or Kate Middleton, the Queen of the Belgians proved that she too was not afraid to recycle old outfits: she had taken in her luggage her traditional Anita Dongre dress (already worn in India in 2017), her floral and belted Natan Couture dress, but also her printed trouser set and a white dress from this same Belgian brand that she particularly likes. A few sharp accessories brightened up her outfits, including a pair of round Longchamp glasses and a large green Maison Fabienne Delvigne hat. A stylish queen, but thrifty!
