(Philadelphia) In the United States, a gunman wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, overnight Monday through Tuesday, killing four people and injuring two others, police said.
Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw told a news conference that all of the victims were male.
The suspect was arrested in an alley without incident, Ms.me Outlaw. He had a body armor, several magazines, an AR-type rifle, a handgun and a police scanner, she said.
“At this point, all we know is that this person has decided to leave their home and go after individuals,” Ms.me Outlaw.
The shootings came a day after gunfire erupted at a block party in Baltimore, about 100 miles to the southwest, killing two people and injuring 28 others. The injured were between 13 and 32 years old and more than half of them were minors, according to the authorities.
The Philadelphia violence is the 29e mass shooting in the country in 2023, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University.
Since the beginning of the year, the country has seen the highest number of killings and deaths ever recorded in a single year.
According to the database, there have been more than 550 killings since 2006, in which at least 2,900 people died and at least 2,000 were injured.
