(Philadelphia) Philadelphia Flyers forward Cam Atkinson will undergo neck surgery on Wednesday and will miss the entire 2022-23 season.
This is another blow for one of the worst teams in the National Hockey League.
The 33-year-old Atkinson hasn’t played in any games this season. Last year, in his first season with the Flyers, he had 23 goals and 50 points. He spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Atkinson has signed a contract that will expire at the end of the 2025 season. His average annual salary is 5.875 million US.
The Flyers have just 10 wins and 27 standings this season, and have been hit hard by injuries to key players like Sean Couturier and Ryan Ellis.
