To cope with an increase in the number of thefts in their pharmacies, American pharmacies had to place their products under alarm in locked compartments.

This is a scene that has become common in the United States. Thieves normally enter a pharmacy, go behind the counter and rob the stock in one minute flat. Drugs, and especially opioids, are the favorite target of criminals. “I gave them everything they wanted, I didn’t know how far they were going to go and I didn’t want to risk my life”testifies Ahmed Nasser, pharmacist in Dearborn, Michigan and victim of one of these thefts.

A device to reduce theft by up to 70%

To react, pharmacies have decided to put all their products under alarm. Across the Atlantic, pharmacies not only sell medicines, but also hygiene and care products. Everything is now locked and to access it, you have to call an employee with a button. For the most sensitive drugs, the brand has even set up safes with a minimum opening time to give employees time to notify the police in the event of an attack. The device would have made it possible to reduce thefts by 70% in certain stores.
