As the Covid-19 vaccination campaign continues in France, it is pharmacies’ turn to play an even more important role. The government wants to encourage them to open on Sunday to vaccinate.
In Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), a small neighborhood pharmacy is already open six days a week. On a voluntary basis, it can now open on Sundays to vaccinate and screen for Covid-19. While some are happy, others are worried about employees. “It is still necessary that the staff take time off”, underlines a customer interviewed Thursday, December 10.
Pharmacist Raphaël Gigliotti finds himself overwhelmed every day between the thirty vaccines, the fifty tests and the delivery of drugs. To meet the demand, he had to recruit but the eleven employees are tired. “It’s getting complicated to get up to speed again so we’ll keep this Sunday off for ourselves”, explains the pharmacist from Nice. The state has provided a financial incentive to encourage pharmacies to open on Sundays: five euros more per injection.
