PGA Women’s Championship | The American Nelly Korda in the lead

(West Lake Sammamish) Nelly Korda birdied her final hole to score a 69 and take provisional first place in the first round of the Women’s PGA Championship on Thursday.

Korda started her day on the second nine, and the world’s leading player made four birdies in the first five pennants. The rest of the course was more complicated for her, while the trees helped to spice things up. She notably made a double bogey at the fourth.

“If you try to be aggressive when you’re in a bad position, it backfires on you,” Korda said. Overall, I think I played pretty well. I took my chances where I could and played more cautiously for the majority of the course. »

Korda holed a 15-foot putt on the par-3 ninth hole to give himself a lead after the morning tees.

Seven players follow her at 70 (minus-2), including Allisen Corpuz, Céline Boutier, Charley Hull and Leona Maguire. The latter led after three rounds last year in Baltusrol, but delivered a final card of 74 to finish four shots behind the winner, South Korean Ruoning Yin.

Playing alongside Korda, Yin bounced back from a poor start and shot a 33 on the back nine to post a 71.

Champion of the event in 2016, Canadian Brooke Henderson played par after four holes. Her compatriot ALENA Sharp was also in action in the afternoon.

The other representative of the maple leaf, Savannah Grewal, played 78 (plus-6).
