PGA Players Championship | World No.1 Scottie Scheffler retains his title

(Miami) American Scottie Scheffler, world No.1, became the first PGA Tour golfer to retain his title at the prestigious Players Championship on Sunday in Ponte Vedra Beach (Florida).

On the evening of the fourth and final round, he returned a card of 64, at eight under par, to suddenly beat three pursuers, his compatriots Xander Schauffele, world No.6 and reigning Olympic champion, leader at the start of this last course, Wyndham Clark, world No.5 and winner of the last US Open, and Brian Harman, world No.9.

These three men threatened Scheffler until the end, in a breathtaking finale. They each had to make a birdie at 18e and last hole to push Scheffler into the play-off.

Clark came closest to achieving it, but his ball, putted a little more than 5 meters from the flag, turned on the edge of the hole without falling there.
