PGA | Peter Malnati wins the Valspar Championship, Mackenzie Hughes finishes 3rd

(Palm Harbor) Peter Malnati signed only his second victory on the PGA Tour by winning the Valspar Championship on Sunday.

Malnati made a birdie at 17e hole to deliver a final card of 67 (minus-4) which allowed him to finish the tournament at 272 (-12). His only other title came at the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2015.

He thus obtained his ticket for the Masters Tournament, in which he will take part for the first time in his career.

Malnati beat his American compatriot Cameron Young (68) by two strokes. Leader after 54 holes, Keith Mitchell (77) slipped to 17e place.

Installed in second place after three rounds, Canadian Mackenzie Hughes (70) finished third, tied with rookie Chandler Phillips (69). They were among the five players who provisionally occupied first place during this last round.

Hughes was in the lead on the back nine when he made a birdie with a 13-yard putt on the 10th.e. However, he subsequently made two bogeys.

His compatriot Adam Hadwin (69) placed fifth, while Adam Svensson fell 41 positions with a final card of 77. Nick Taylor (70) was the only other representative of the maple leaf to have avoided the ax and he finished at 64e step.
