(Kapalua) Spaniard Jon Rahm came from behind by seven strokes and started the year on the right foot with a victory at the PGA Tour of Champions on Sunday, helped in large part by the poor final round of American Collin Morikawa.
Rahm was down six moves on 13e hole, but he chained three birdies, an eagle and a last birdie which allowed him to hand over a card of 63 (minus-10).
As for him, Morikawa had managed to avoid the bogeys for 67 holes on the course of the Plantation Course in Kapalua, but everything collapsed on the greens, where he had nevertheless excelled this weekend to forge a six-stroke lead. in the lead heading into the final round.
After difficult shots on the 14e15e and 16e holes, Morikawa looked completely distraught as he walked down the aisle at 17e hole. He had then just escaped a seven-stroke lead and was now two strokes off the lead.
He eventually tied a PGA record for the biggest lead lost after 54 holes, or six strokes.
Rahm won the tournament with a 265 (minus-27) card, two strokes ahead of Morikawa. Despite a birdie at 18e hole, his first since the sixth, Morikawa played a round of 72.
Corey Conners was the top Canadian on the course this weekend, finishing tied for 18e rank at minus-17. Fellow Canadian Mackenzie Hughes finished one stroke behind at 16 under.
Meanwhile, Adam Svensson finished the tournament at 5 under.
