Americans Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay had a second round of 60 strokes or less to take a comfortable lead after 54 pennants on Saturday at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, a team tournament played in Avondale.
The duo was the best of the day by delivering a card of 60 (-12). This round, like the first, where Schauffele and Cantlay had gone 59 (-13), was played in the two-ball, best-ball format. At -29, they hit the white object five times less than second-ranked South Africans Garrick Higgo and Branden Grace.
Like the Americans, they had their best performance at the seventh pennant with a par-5 eagle. Higgo and Grace had their best round in New Orleans on Saturday with a 63 (-9).
Only one Canadian is still in contention at this tournament. With United States representative Ryan Armour, Ontarian Michael Gligic returned a score of 67 (-5), which positions him tied for 32nd place, at -15.
