Health Canada gave the green light to Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months to 4 years old on Friday, nearly two months after approving Moderna’s vaccine for the same age group.

It is therefore the second vaccine against COVID-19 that is made available to toddlers. These contain a lower dose of mRNA.
As with all vaccines, it was approved “after a thorough and independent scientific review of the evidence”.
For children 6 months to 5 years of age, Health Canada recommends an eight-week interval between the two doses.
In Quebec, the Moderna vaccine for toddlers has been available since July 25.
The license application for the latter vaccine was filed by Pfizer on June 23.
Recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization should be issued shortly, Health Canada warned in a press release.
