The state of health emergency will last three months in Peru. Sign of concern caused by the upsurge “unusual” cases of Guillain-Barré in the country. The last report from the Peruvian Ministry of Health, Monday July 10, reports four deaths and 180 reported cases since January.

This rare syndrome causes an acute, paralyzing and progressive neuropathy, sometimes leading to death. Tingling sensations and lack of strength in the fingers of the hands and feet are among the most common early symptoms.

“There has been a significant increase in recent weeks that requires us to take action at the state level to protect the health and life of the population”said the Minister of Health. The 33 million inhabitants of this Latin American country are therefore put under glass for 90 days to try to stem this disease. This severe inflammation of the nervous system was mentioned, in July 2021, as a “very rare” side effect of the Covid-19 vaccine, developed by Johnson & Johnson.
